Abstract

This paper aims at presenting the new concept of controlling active and reactive powers simultaneously (complex power) with the help of the series inverter of UPQC, introduced and termed as UPQC-S. The new proposed concept of the UPQCS approach is mathematically formulated and analyzed for voltage sag and swell conditions in power systems. The developed comprehensive equations for UPQC-S can be effectively utilized to estimate the required series injection voltage and the shunt compensating current profiles (both magnitude of simultaneous voltage sag/swell and load reactive power sharing feature of series part and phase angle), and the overall VA loading both under voltage sag and swell conditions. . The simulation studies illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed concept of UPQC-S.

Abstract

Now a days in shipping, aerospace and in process industry aluminium and its alloys are commonly used because of their valuable properties such as light weight, better corrosion resistance and weld ability. The current study aim is to Investigation of Strength of V & U Groove Butt Joint on mechanical properties of AA2025 and AA7025 for different groove angle and bevel heights keeping root opening, voltage and current constant. The specimens are prepared by using V and U groove butt weld joints. In this work gas Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding process has been selected because TIG welding is the process of joining different materials with high quality in the presence of inert gas. Alternating current power source has been selected because of better cleaning action and due to alternating current the high heat concentration on the material can be avoided. Mechanical tests such as tensile test, impact test, hardness test have been conducted to find out the mechanical properties such as tensile strength, impact strength, toughness of HAZ.

Abstract

Abstract- HPC applications nowadays are gaining huge attention in cloud computing arena. Majority of the HPC applications are used for scientific applications or purposes. They require huge CPU usage and tremendous data storage capabilities. Previously HPC applications required large set of interconnected computers in a network like clusters or supercomputers. These clusters are infeasible both financially and technically. But nowadays due to the advent of cloud computing scientific fraternity is able to reap the benefits of cloud computing due to the low cost and maintenance associated with HPC applications. Cloud computing also provides the benefits of Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS) both beneficial to the scientific community. Also Quality of Service (QoS) is an added advantage. This paper focuses on the present state of HPC applications as well as previous research done in this field.

Abstract

Cloud computing is a concept which includes the disciplines like, business models and technologies together to deliver IT capabilities with minimum effort and easy to manage. Cloud is commonly divided into two types, public cloud and private cloud. This project goal is to build up a customized private cloud using OpenStack for small and mid-sized organizations with cost effective solution. It reduce huge amount of money spending to third party cloud service providers. This paper discusses about implementing private cloud using open source software’s and customizing the Openstack Nova scheduler. The private cloud implementation is done using OpenStack in Ubuntu operating system. The Nova scheduler in Openstack is customized according to the requirement of the organization which develop the cloud. The cloud is capable of providing the infrastructure as a service which includes operating systems and middleware environment.

Abstract

This paper proposes simulation of Bidirectional DC - DC converter with Maximum Power Point Tracking using Photo Voltaic cell with motor load in boost and buck mode respectively. The proposed two level converters have the advantages of transformer less operation. This converter can operate with steep conversion ratio, soft- switching, continuous inductor current and fixed switching frequency. In the proposed DC-DC converter topology, the switched coupled-inductor is used instead of coupled inductor. The proposed converter is carried out in MATLAB working platform and the output performance is analyzed. It shows that Bidirectional DC - DC converter with Maximum Power Point Tracking using Photo Voltaic cell gives more efficiency.

Abstract

This paper reports on an experimental investigations carried out to evaluate the effects of concrete mix properties prepared with partial replacement of fine aggregates by copper slag at levels of 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50% and 60%. In this study, M30 grade concrete was considered to study the strength parameters, compressive and flexural strength development for concrete curing periods of 3, 7 and 28 days. It was found that all mixes yielded comparable or higher compressive and flexural strength than the control concrete for all curing periods. Compressive and flexural strength increases with respect to the percentage replacement of copper slag by the weight of fine aggregate up to 40% replacement. The compressive strength of cube and flexural strength of beam at 28 days curing period was increased by 31.6% to 54.87% and 10.87% to 26.62% respectively with replacement of copper slag. The quality of concrete mixes was found good from ultrasonic pulse velocity. Flexural fatigue analysis was carried out to predict fatigue life of concrete specimens where 40% of fine aggregate was replaced by copper slag and maximum strength is obtained; at three stress ratios (0.65, 0.70 and 0.75 of fatigue failure loads). From the data obtained S-N curves are developed using linear regression model considering log normal distribution as is being presently adopted. The number of repetitions to failure was compared with the IRC: 58 model and found that up to 0.75 stress ratio it shows more number of repetitions to failure than the suggested IRC-58 fatigue life and at higher stress ratio it fail earlier.

Abstract

This paper mainly analyses the impact of Nationalisation and Social Control on Banking Sector till Economic Reforms. Social control was necessary to provide proper guidelines for bank management. The objective was to serve better the needs of development of the economy in conformity with national policy objectives. It was believed that the objectives and policies of the nations could be achieved through nationalisation. It was also felt that bank deposits could be used for the economic development of the country as a whole rather than for certain industries and business houses. After nationalisation in 1969 major structural transformation had occurred in the Indian banking system. LBS became the principal instrument for branch expansion. Spread of banking and deposit mobilisation were the two most significant achievements of nationalisation.

Abstract

Prediction of a financial market is more challenging due to non linearity and uncertainty of the system. Due to many drawbacks of traditional techniques for developing predictive model for stock market, intelligent techniques are widely used. This research work presents use of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) using various technical indicators suggested by researchers. The stock Index data with Open, High, Low and Close are used to extract features and then features are selected based on many existing rank based feature selection techniques and a new Index data with reduced feature subset is supplied to ANN for future value prediction. An empirical result show that feature extraction and then feature selection may play crucial role in terms of efficiency of the ANN model. Ten years historical daily Indian stock data were used for the experimental purpose from which a total of 16 features were extracted and then 7 features are selected for stock market prediction. The MAPE found with these seven features is 5.48.

Abstract

Bone scaffolds are used in the treatment of bone defects, various materials are widely used nowadays to produce osteoconductive tissues. The present study is framed to design and characterize a bone scaffold using rice husk and starch. With the aid of rice husk, porous scaffold is developed for bone tissue regeneration, which can provide a mechanical support in an ecofriendly and cost effective manner. The combination of rice husk and starch with a biodegradable polymer gives a good compressive strength and mechanical property. Characterization of rice husk and starch is performed by various techniques such as SEM, compressive mechanical test, porosity test, in vitro bioactivity test. Thus the blend of rice husk and starch with polymer is useful in forming an ideal scaffold intended for bone regeneration.

Abstract

Welding, as one of the most effective joining methods for metals, has been extensively applied in engineering usage since a long time. The determination of microstructure and mechanical properties of welded structures is thus of paramount importance to implement a damage tolerant approach to structural life extension. In this study, structural and mechanical properties evaluation of 31000-H2 (IS-737) Aluminium Alloy after single pass Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding were investigated to reveal the yield strength, ultimate strength, percentage elongation, impact strength and hardness of welded joints. The TIG Welding results of aluminium alloys 31000-H2 for 5 mm plate thickness using different filler materials during welding are presented in this paper. Effect of welding was studied on four different zones like base Metal, weld metal heat affected zone and combined zone of base Metal and heat affected zone. Welded specimens were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UTM and Rockwell micro-hardness tester. Scanning electron microscopy was used to characterize transition sites of welded zone, HAZ, base metal and combined zone of base Metal and heat affected zone. Tensile test was conducted to characterize weld strength by determining ultimate tensile strength and micro-hardness test was conducted to characterize the homogeneity of welding in terms of mechanical properties.

Abstract

Electronic patient health records encompass valuable information about patient’s medical problems, diagnoses, and treatments offered including their outcomes. However, a problem for medical professionals is an ability to efficiently access the information that are documented in the form of free-text. A multitude of systems are now available through which the vision of access to distributed data for personalised medicine or e-Health is now very much a reality , but retrieving these private data’s are very much in question. Private Information Retrieval (PIR) allows a user to retrieve bits from a database while hiding the user’s access pattern. The goal of Private Information Retrieval (PIR) is for a client to query a database in such a way that no one, including the database operator, can determine any information about the desired database record. This can be applied for retrieving useful data’s of patients affected by cancer across the world., while the information is stored in cloud database for each region connected through network. This paper discusses more about hybrid cloud in trust building knowledge discovery for Private informational retrieval. Existing processes for patients’ vital data collection require a great deal of labour work to collect, input and analyse the information. Privacy is also a major issue. Creating and updating these cloud databases also proves to be a difficult task, with major improvement in cancer treatments day by day, offering a solution to the needful users with private dealing is almost welcoming.

Abstract

Leaf diseases weaken trees and shrubs by interrupting chemical change, the method by that plants produce energy that sustains growth and defense systems and influences survival. Problem can be resolved when provided with the remedial action in time and this can be achieved with the introduction of technology in the system. This paper presents an improved method for leaf disease detection using an adaptive approach. The algorithm presented used to preprocess, segment and extract information from the preprocessed image. The segmentation is done using K-Means algorithm to achieve different clusters. The shape feature and color texture features are extracted from the affected reasons and send to the SVM classifier. The detection task performed and experimental results prove that the proposed method is efficient in reaching convergence.

Abstract

Attacks on ATM are on the increase world-wide. The cash handling, financial and banking companies have always taken the threat of villainous attacks very seriously and are constantly striving to improve their security measures. The main objective of this work aims at to develop an embedded system which is used for ATM security applications. This system would in turn benefit all the customers and the bankers will collect the customer mobile number who have a valid ATM card registered officially. On most modern ATM’s the customer is identified by inserting a plastic ATM card with a magnetic stripe having a chip that contains a unique card number. Authentication is provided by the customer entering a personal identification number (PIN).
