A study of level of lipid peroxide in IDDM and NIDDM patients

Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Biochemistry - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 2

Abstract

Aims and Objectives: To study Level of Lipid peroxide in IDDM and NIDDM patients. Methodology: Participants of the study group were selected from the outpatient’s population of Department of Diabetology, Thanjavur Medical College, Thanjavur. 100 patients were selected for this study. Out of which 50 patients belong to NIDDM and 50 to IDDM group. 50 persons served as healthy control. Serum malondialdehyde was estimated by YAGI Method. Un-paired t-test was used for statistical analysis. Result: The average MDA level (Mean±SD) was significantly higher in DM Group. i.e.4.63±0.35 than Control Group i.e. 3.61± 0.11 respectively (P< 0.0001). The average MDA level (Mean ±SD) was significantly higher in NIDDM i.e. 4.8 ± 0.37 as compared to IDDM i.e. 4.46 ± 0.23 than Control i.e. 3.61±0.11 respectively ( P<0.001). Conclusion: It can be concluded from study that cases on insulin as therapeutic regime (IDDM) had lower mean MDA level as compared to those on oral hypoglycaemics (NIDDM) indicating lesser level of oxidative stress in diabetics on insulin.
