Serum Vitamin D in Chronic Periodontitis
Journal Title: International Journal for Research in Applied Science and Engineering Technology (IJRASET) - Year 2017, Vol 5, Issue 7
Abstract
Background Vitamin D is a lipid soluble vitamin also called as sunshine vitamin as it is synthesized in skin by exposure to ultraviolet rays. It is mainly required for bone growth, calcium metabolism, cellular growth and differentiation, immunity and cardiovascular function. In periodontitis systemic release of proinflmmatory cytokines occurs at accelerated rate resulting in enhanced systemic bone resorption.
