Utopie i antyutopie w polskiej kinematografii science-fiction

Journal Title: Wschodni Rocznik Humanistyczny - Year 2017, Vol 0, Issue 2

Abstract

In the history of Polish cinematography, several ambitious science fiction films about utopian themes were created. The most important of them are the works of Piotr Szulkin and the cult of Sexmission. The films described in this paper deal with issues related to totalitarianism, consumerism, transhumanism, dehumanism, and artificial intelligence. Apart from the political aspects, it should be emphasized that sometimes our domestic cinematography was even preceded by Western, more familiar productions. Polish science-fiction films, on the one hand, portrayed the memory of the nightmare of totalitarianism and communism, and, on the other hand, fearing that it could return in the future with redoubled power. No matter how these film productions have been accepted by the public and critics, their value seems invaluable. Such films are simply needed as they are an indispensable compendium of knowledge about the past and a simultaneous warning of the future, the sum and creation of our civilizational activities.
