SOCIO-CULTURAL CONTEXT OF BLOODBATH

Abstract

Blood feud, a type of violence is a social phenomenon prevails in many parts of the world. The action of bloodbath owing to intensity of live and livingstyle may differ in time and space. The appearance of these differences in this phenomena in different times and societies indicate socio-cultural context. The blood feud is the feud which encompasses the whole community in the form of collective vengeance rather than an act of an individual retaliation.The frequenct occurence of bloodbath, the basic motivaton behind the initiation and maintaining this action, who will take avenge and who is held responsible, how this process will be dealt, differ from one society to an other on the basis of the nature and specificities of these societies. Blood feud, a form of retaliation being more prominent at certain social relations and cultural contexts can be understood by taking account of the specific social conditions and cultural values. For that purpose, cultural context and cocepts which determine social relations and societal concepts are to be comprehended through analysis. To be expressed more cleary, the action of bloodbathing is a social phenomena that is determined by the socio-cultural conditions. Therefore, it is imperative to understand the socio-cultural context of the tradition of bloodbath in order to understand how the motivations pushing the individuals to act collectively makes the social environment. This study inteding to analyse the social conditions of bloodbath has found that compared with education and economic devevelopment, sociocultural contexts have more influence in converting the single incident of bloodbath into the issue interested to the wohle community. In other words, beliefs and values of social organization are more influential behind the phenomena of bloodbath.
