Abstract

The article can be inscribed in the discipline of history of research on everyday ordinari- ness. The author’s contribution is the attempt to show the everyday life of Polish politicians in Vienna in the era of parliamentarism, i.e. within 1861–1914, excluding the period of the First World War. The starting point is the phenomenon of the significant Polish political presence over Danube, which lasted several decades and involved a group of several hundred people. The author describes the circumstances of the their stay in the capital of the monarchy the and influ- ence of the social and class changes on the politicians’ lifestyle and daily existence. The article refers not only to the routinely performed tasks of members of parliament (the organisation of a parliamentarian’s work) but also to the manner in which the politicians spent their free time. The question of accommodation was also included in the presented research. Ultimately, the article deals with the politicians’ families who also occasionally came to Vienna, especially if a parliamentarian was a member of the council of ministers, which entailed spending a consid- erable time in the Danubian metropolis. The author presents a wide area of research, i.e. the everyday life also with reference to the social group which could be called the political class. Many years’ stay in Vienna had also influence on Galician politicians and their everyday habits, which can be corroborated by the specific reputation they had in the Second Polish Republic. Finally, the author formulates a series of research questions.
