PRÁTICAS DE RECICLAGEM DE RESÍDUOS TÊXTEIS: UMA CONTRIBUIÇÃO PARA A GESTÃO AMBIENTAL NO BRASIL

Abstract
The recycling of textiles is the method of reprocessing used clothing, fibrous material and leftover fabric for the purpose of formation of new products. Recycling practices in the textile industry have been adopted since the beginning of the twentieth century. This article aims to promote understanding of recycling textile waste as an alternative to reduce environmental impacts. Currently, most of this waste is disposed of improperly, and being destined for landfills in several countries. The recycling of textile waste is a well-organized industry, thus, examples of companies doing this practice in Brazil and elsewhere in the world are outlined, pointing out guidelines for the expansion of this process in order to minimize environmental impacts by the sector in line with the public policy and the need to change the current model of consumption.
