ABSTRACTThe aim of this study is to determine the methods and techniques which Turkish teachers use to improve students' speaking skills and the sample practices that they use. Designed as a qualitative phenomenological research, this study employs semi-structured interview schedule, which is a qualitative data collection technique. Consisting of 10 Turkish language teachers, the study group was selected in accordance with the snowball sampling technique. The available data were analyzed using content analysis. The data obtained in the study are explained and interpreted in detail in the findings section. The results reveal that that the Turkish teachers participating in this study were insufficient in using methods and techniques that encourage active learning and teaching in teaching of speaking skills. In addition, the situation of the participants about the knowledge that they need to have in order to apply rich teaching methods and techniques in their lessons is discussed in the results and suggestions section. |
