Investigation the most common problems after delivery of removable partial dentures

Abstract

Background and Aims: With the decreasing rate of toothless adults, the number of individuals who need partial prosthesis increases every day. In this study, the most common problems after delivery of removable partial dentures and their causes in patients were investigated. Methods and Materials: In this cross - sectional study 80 patients were selected and their problems evaluated in five categories by related questionnaire: pain, mobility and relaxation, functional problems, cosmetic problems and other difficulties. Data were analyzed by SPSS18. Results: The mean age of patients was 51.34±7.24 years in the range of 36 to 63 years, 39 (48.08%) were male and 51(51.3%) were female. The pain in the palate and throat while opening and closure of the mouth, pain in the basic teeth, pain in the various site of the mouth was significantly more ( P=0.033, P=0.01, p=0.005, P=0.005 respectively). The mobility and the lack of adequate fixation was also higher (P<0.001). The difficulty in eating and speaking was significantly higher (P=0.033, P=0.046 respectively). Most of the patients were satisfied with the shape and cosmetic aspects (P=0.033, P<0.001, P=0.026 respectively). Conclusion: The most problems with partial dentures were the pain in the palate and throat while opening and closure of the mouth, pain in the basic teeth, pain in the various site of the mouth, difficulty in eating and speaking and the lack of adequate fixation.
