ASSESSMENT OF THE DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRESS OF A CHILD WITH PSYCHOMOTOR DISORDERS REHABILITATED WITH THE USE OF THE BOBATH CONCEPT (NDT)

Abstract
The paper aimed to assess the developmental progress of an infant with developmental disorders rehabilitated with the use of the Bobath concept (neuro-developmental treatment). The case study method was used. A girl with psychomotor development disorders who was provided with early rehabilitation was examined. The following research tools were used to assess the child’s functioning: developmental profiles according to the Munich Functional Developmental Diagnostics and observation based on the observation form used in the Bo-bath concept, which were filled in before and after the therapy. The therapy lasted 10 months and covered all the areas of development that had been assessed as disturbed in the profiles and observations mentioned above (i.e. mainly speech development and motor development). After the therapy, a significant improvement in the girl’s psychomotor development was ob-served, especially in the area of gross motor skills. However, no satisfactory improvement was observed in the development of active and passive language skills. As this individual case shows, the effects of an early assessment and treatment may be very promising, which could significantly improve the quality of the child’s and his or her family’s life.
