Corporate Governance and Financial Performance: A Study of Select Listed Companies in India

Abstract
The study aims to examine the association between corporate governance and financial performance of 183 companies listed on the National Stock Exchange. The selection of the sample size is based on market capitalization. Data are taken according to the availability of annual reports and corporate governance report for the period 2013-14. Two variables Tobin’s Q for market performance and ROA as accounting performance are selected as dependent variables. Results implied that total assets and gearing are negatively associated with ROA and Tobin’s q. AIC is negatively associated with Tobin’s Q but positively associated with ROA. The study broadens the knowledge in the area of corporate governance and its relationship with the market and financial performance of the companies. The study will be useful to academician, policy makers and managers.
