Journal Title: International Journal of Ayurveda & Alternative Medicine - Year 2017, Vol 5, Issue 4

Abstract

Agadtantra is one the branch of Ashtang Ayurveda, it deals with poison signs and symptoms, antidote, treatment also its medicinal used in Shuddha form. Sushruta Samhita mentioned that Vatsanabha is Tikshna Kanda Visha. Before use of Vatsanabha, it undergoes process of Shodhana so that at low dose it causes maximum effect but when it is used in Ashuddha form causes daha (burning), Hrudayagatirodhan (cardiotoxic) and death. But when Vatsanabha used in Shuddha in Goghrut or Gomutra it acts as diaphoretic, sedative, stimulant and cardiotonic drug. Today modern science claimed that Ayurvedic preparations such as Tribhuvankirti rasa, Sanjivanivati, Mahashankha vati etc has poisonous contents i.e. Vatsanabha causing organs toxic damages. In the present era there is extensive need to prove this principle in modern standard technology and tools to revalidate these conceptsin animal experimentation and TLC and are found safe. By keeping these in view it is need of present era to prove that Shudda Vatsanabha when used as mentioned in ayurved classic as in combination with tankan or processed in Goghrut or Gomutra become nontoxic and hence can be safely.
