Debonding Methods in Orthodontic
Journal Title: Black Sea Journal of Health Science - Year 2018, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
The process of removal of the braces and the adhesive resin from the tooth surface by termination of the active period of the fixed orthodontic treatment is called debonding. The purpose of the debonding process is to remove the fixed attachments, to cleanthe residual adhesive on the tooth surface, and to bring the tooth surface to the pre-bonding state without iatrogenic damage. There are four methods for removing orthodontic attachments. These methods include; mechanical debonding, electrothermal debonding, ultrasonic debonding, laser debonding. After debonding, a number of cleaning methods such as hand tools, sanding discs, rubber burs, diamond burs and tungsten carbide burs are used to clean the resin. Care must be taken during debonding procedures because problems such as pulp necrosis, enamel damage, coloration on the tooth surface and tenderness can occur. During cleaning of the tooth surface, aerosols, dusts are formed and they cause danger due to cross-infection. Therefore inour review we aimed to evaluate the differences between the different debonding procedures.
