Epidemiological hygienic evaluation of risk of morbidity with acute intestinal infections of the population in the area of construction of hydrotehnical structure

Abstract

The water quality changes emerged during erection of water-engineering system are accompanied by pathogenic bacteria growth which is a risk factor for onset of acute intestinal infections (AII). The goal of research is to evaluate the impact of water quality on AII incidence in population living in the vicinity of a projectable Nizhny Novgorod low-pressure water-engineering system. It has been revealed that water microbial contamination level from distribution net water supply in Balakhna (р=0.005) and Gorodets (р=0.001) regions is higherthan in Nizhny Novgorod. AII incidence among children living in Balakhna region is higher than amongchildrenliving in Nizhny Novgorod (p=0.002). AII incidence among adults living in Balakhna (р=0.005) and Gorodets (р=0.001) regions is also higher than amongadults living in Nizhny Novgorod (p=0.002). The study showed that AII incidence among population is associated with the water microbial contamination level from distribution net and non-centralized water supply. It has been determined that the risk of AII is “very high” in Balakhna region (0.8), and the risk of AII is “high” in Gorodets region and Nizhny Novgorod (0.6 and 0.4, respectively). One of reasons of microbial contamination of water in these regions is a high portion of dilapidated and wrecking distribution nets, that is confirmed by the correlation between the incidence of infectious diseases among children living in Balakhna regionand the accident rate at distribution netwater supply (p<0.03).
