Journal Title: Духовність особистості: методологія, теорія і практика - Year 2019, Vol 1, Issue 88
Abstract
The article substantiates the idea of evolutionary change of the Christian theory of "spirituality". The study of the history of the spiritual education theory requires the study of the history changes in the world-view of society and the formation of attitude towards God, as well as the relationship with God. At different times, under the influence of socio-political factors, there were different ideological paradigms, and therefore, the concept of spirituality was interpreted differently. The complexity of the study of "spirituality" consists in the interpretation of this concept in the indisputable relationship with key worldview terms, such as: truth, beauty, goodness. The investigated phenomenon in a certain historical period was considered through the prism of certain ideological orientations. Consequently, the concept of "spirituality" is formed within the paradigms of different eras. Accordingly, from the historical point of view, for the analysis of the conceptual foundations of the Christian "spirituality" phenomenon one can distinguish the following periods of the development of the theory of spirituality: the concept formation in the times of Antiquity, the flowering of the Christian concept, the concept evolution under the influence of the science and technology development in the New time. The concept of "spirituality" in the days of Antiquity was based mainly on certain ideals, but the existing ideals were absolute in terms of its ontological essence. The Christian concept drew attention to the "I" of a separate human soul, its inner world, a person who seeks to know its internal value, considering "spirituality" an integral part of man. The main feature of the philosophical comprehension of the concept of "spirituality" during the Renaissance was the discovery of internally human rather than divine values. However, if in the previous periods of philosophical comprehension, the concept of "spirituality" and the values formed on its basis, were absolute, then in the specified period recognized its relativity.
