Journal Title: Medycyna Ogólna i Nauki o Zdrowiu - Year 2014, Vol 20, Issue 3

Abstract

As a result of the growth of women’s cultural capital during last ten years in Poland, meaningful changes have been observed in the area of performance of roles by females and males. It may be presumed that the differences between females and males are becoming increasingly blurred concerning the expected job or social role played in the public sector. Differences in performing cultural roles are still large, which is the result of traditional perception of men and women. The aim of the presented study is the performance of analyses showing differences in material standard of the disabled living in rural environments. The characteristics of the disabled rural inhabitants of the Lublin Region was based on research material collected in 2010, using the diagnostic survey method according to the questionnaire designed by the author. The research instrument contained 66 closed and open questions, which concerned various aspects of functioning of the disabled. In this study the relationships were shown using 10 questions from the questionnaire. The investigations covered 800 disabled, aged 16–65 living in the rural areas of the Lublin Region, conducted using the questionnaire mailed to the sample of addresses obtained from the commune social security centres. The results of the study confirmed that in the rural environment of the Lublin Region women evaluated their material standard in more positive terms, compared to males, declared a higher real income per family member, and showed higher activity in the labour market.
