Linguistic turn and the problem of multiple social identity

Journal Title: Мultiversum. Philosophical almanac - Year 2019, Vol 0, Issue 1

Abstract

The theme of multiple social identities is not accidentally actualized by in the twentieth century, in the century of many turns – anthropological, ontological, linguistic, pragmatic, practical, communicative, and others. The need for a certain "turn", announced by Martin Heidegger, arises in connection with the deepening of social modernization. From the experience of social revolutions in different countries of the world it was born an understanding that the only correct scenario of the development of society can not exist at all, instead there are multiple social practices. Language has always been the domain of freedom of rulemaking, plurality, and variation of the linguistic expression of human experience. The purpose of the article is to reveal how functional and value analysis of language and speech creates the preconditions for the creation of the concept of multiple social identities. The analysis of the language after the linguistic turn has created the basis for the analysis of the plurality of speech representations of the individual, which, in turn, marked the prospect of developing the concept of multiple identities. The importance of analyzing Heidegger's philosophy lies not only in the fact that the early period of his work gives guidance on the prospects of considering the concept of multiple identities, but also that the late period of Heidegger's work points to that hopelessness that arises in one-dimensional language interpretation without taking into account its multiple speech social modes of existence. An important role is played by the concept of language games as a linguistic families, which sets the plurality of relevancy structures as a promising alternative. All this creates important preconditions for the development of the concept of multiple social practices, and hence – the concept of multiple social identities.
