Oil factor in Georgia – Azerbaijan relations during the years of independence

Abstract
In general, both Azerbaijan and Georgia are in need of close cooperation with each other. Heydar Aliyev and Eduard Shevardnadze has repeatedly stated that the cooperation and strategic partnership between the two countries are not directed against any third country, and are based only on national interests. If I may say so, the relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia are characterized by self-defense more than by anything else. Today, both countries are closely cooperating with each other in the framework of international organizations in an effort not to overstep, but rather to protect the interests of each other. Caspian oil which is transferred through the main export oil pipeline of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, made Azerbaijan and Georgia long-term strategic partners.
