Self-assessment in the context of the Polish Quality Award – criteria and trends

Abstract
The paper presents the functions fulfilled by self-assessment and emphasises its significance in various contests and promotional programmes organised in Poland. The Polish Quality Award has been characterised as a typical contest, employing the self-assessment method. The charts show the basic numerical data concerning the subsequent editions of the contest, held in the years 1995–2011. The article describes the trends in the evolution of the assessments given to respective contest criteria. The criteria with the highest and lowest growth dynamics have been pointed out as well as these with the highest and lowest assessment scores throughout the period of the Polish Quality Award’s existence.
