Abstract

Present study sociologically investigates the effect of using mobile phone on lifestyle (case study: grade 2 high school students of Amol county) in academic year of 1393. Initially, theories about mass media and afterwards theories about lifestyle were examined. According to Antony Gidnez theories about lifestyle and incorporating it with that of George Gerbner’s cultivation theory as a cognitive map, the required framework regarding the effect of using mobile phone on lifestyle was specified and some aspects such as religiosity, educational and academic dimension, body management, and leisure time were scrutinized through proposed hypotheses. Survey research method was applied for conducting present research. Statistical sample including 372 girl and boy students was achieved based on Cochran formula through stratified random sampling method out of a population totaling 12367 students. A researcher constructed questionnaire was utilized as research instrument, content validity and reliability of which were approved by Alpha Chronbach coefficient. Gathered data were analyzed by SPSS software and by applying Pierson correlation coefficient, and the relationship between research variables was examined. It was revealed that majority of students who use mobile phone have also used Internet applications of their phones. 167 students i.e. 44.9% used it for entertainment and 151 students i.e. 40.6% used it for communicating with their families. It was found that in different aspects of lifestyle, the sig value was less than 0.05. It means that there is a significant relationship between the degree of using mobile phone and different dimensions of lifestyle.
