The destruction of religious architectural monuments in Poltava region during to operation of the Soviet Power in 1920-1960th

Abstract

The author characterizes in the article the conditions of the functioning of religion and the Church during the period of Soviet power in Ukraine. To analyzed the scale of the antireligious campaign, the methods of the destruction of churches and implications of the policy of atheism. The author concludes that as a result of large-scale antireligious campaign civil rights and freedoms, which is a key element of every democracy were grossly violated the ruling Communist Party and religious traditions that are part of any civilized culture destroyed. In the end, overcome vestiges of religious and establish a purely atheistic worldview population and failed, but indicated the campaign had led to a number of negative trends that have manifested in the Ukrainian State today.
