TRANSLATIONAL FEATURES OF ENGLISH MEDICAL DRUGS INSRUCTIONS INTO UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE: PRAGMATIC ASPECT

Abstract

The article is devoted to the translational features of medical drugs instructions (further MDI) from English language into Ukrainian on the different levels of text organization, such as linguistic, syntactic, grammatical and pragmatic. The analyzed sources indicate that most linguists study mainly the lexical aspect of the translation of medical drugs instructions certified in Ukraine, leaving out the extra-linguistic factors that influence their translation. And this can be understood, because the medical terminology is one of the oldest in professional terminology and it is changing, adapting to the needs of our time. This article describes the methods of translation for different levels of the text organization and gives examples of grammatical, syntactic and lexical transformations that can be encountered during the translation process. From the translator's point of view, the translation is considered as a heuristic process, during which, using a set of different techniques, a number of creative tasks are solved, and therefore in our article we investigate the difficulties that may arise during the MDI translation, determined the extra-linguistic factors influencing the translation and developed an algorithm of translation of medical drugs instructions as a coherent text. We think that it is possible to consider the text-instruction as a special type of text. When translating these kinds of texts, it is necessary to take into account all their features in order to choose the strategy of translation correctly. These features include the audience for whom the translation is being performed, the legal features of the current legislation, The Ministry of Health Care standards and variation elements requiring modification, since the structure and design of the English language instructions for medical drugs differs from the Ukrainian ones and without the knowledge of all these features it will be very difficult to make a high-quality translation.
