TRENTE ANNEES DE PROSPECTION ET DE MOBILISATION DES RESSOURCES EN EAU SOUTERRAINE, PAR FORAGES, DANS LA WILAYA DE TLEMCEN

Journal Title: Larhyss Journal - Year 2012, Vol 10, Issue 10

Abstract

Due to its geographical and geological structure the wilaya of Tlemcen has since long ago played the role of a natural water tower for the west region of Algeria. Thus it has supplied water to its own population as well as to the agglomeration of the great city of Oran. Since the early 80s, a significant decrease in the rainfall has resulted in a decrease in local water resources. Thus, shortages in drinking water were observed nearly everywhere across the region of Tlemcen. Furthermore, the increases in the population as well as the socioeconomical development of the region have obliged the local authorities to prospect for new water resources. This work is a synthesis of all the drilling work carried out and the main results concerning the hydrogeology of the region, obtained over the period 1980-2010. Thus we have listed a number of 278 wells and a total length of 65 887m drilled. These drilling programs have touched all the geological and geographical units of the wilaya of Tlemcen. This work has allowed the identification of many ground waters. Very often the exploratory drilling are converted to drilling operations to allow the water supply of the local population as well as that of neighboring wilayas, especially Oran, Ain Temouchent and Sidi Bel Abbes.
