WRITTEN PRESS AS AN ENCOURAGING WAY OF NEW SOCIAL MOVEMENTS AND SOCIAL PARTICIPATION IN GLOBAL CENTRURY

Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2015, Vol 8, Issue 37

Abstract

Globalization is a phenomenon whose impacts are being felt across the entire world. It has become the key motor for change in the world today. It is not only responsible for altering global balances but for giving rise to new social movements. Crucial in such an environment are new social movements that enable citizens to express themselves and to have their voices heard, and a major vehicle for this is the printed media. In today’s world, where opportunities for such participation have grown and the concepts of democracy and the rule of law have gained in importance, it has become evidence that adopting a participatory and dynamic model of democracy is crucial. At the same time, new social movements and the printed media have become essential in demonstrating this to be the case. Globalization encompasses social movements that transform key actors and balances in the world. By shining light on the rise of new social movements and the quest for democratic rule of law, it points to the emergence of a new world order. The fundamental features of this new order are expanding possibilities for participation and the growing importance of the notions of democracy and the rule of law, and the role the printed media, non-governmental organizations and new social movements have in bringing this to light.
