Zirconium dioxide-based bridges: Chosen clinical and laboratory cases. Part II.

Journal Title: Prosthodontics - Year 2016, Vol 66, Issue 1

Abstract

In this article attention is paid to morphological and functional effects of missing teeth in dental arch. The concepts, principles and conditions of lost teeth replacement are discussed. The presented clinical cases of zirconium dioxide-based bridges, due to their aesthetic, mechanical and functional qualities still more often replace conventional bridges based on metal alloys. Prior to dental treatment clinical and physical examinations were performed, taking into account aesthetic and functional expectations of individual patients, as well as additional radiological and photographic tests. Attention was paid to proper diagnostics, including wax-up models installed in an articulator, functional, aesthetic and phonetic values of composite mock-up, appropriate treatment preparation and initial prosthetic treatment. The role of patients and dental technicians in achieving the desired effect is emphasized. Prosthetic treatment, the final stage of dental treatment, is preceded by surgical, conservative and endodontic therapies. The authors also describe a case of prosthetic treatment in the patient with signs of bruxism.
