Journal Title: Ankara Üniversitesi Dil ve Tarih-Coğrafya Fakültesi Dergisi - Year 2017, Vol 57, Issue 1
Abstract
At the same time with the revolutionary movements in some parts of Europe in 1848, the Hungarians also started the war of independence against the Habsburgs under the leadership of Lajos Kossuth. Their struggle failed with the influence of support given by Russians to the Habsburgs. Kossuth settled in Kütahya under the aegis of the Ottoman Empire. After a while, went to the different places of the world in order to continue the war of independence, but not succeeded. Many Hungarians, who participated in the revolution like Kossuth, had to leave their countries. The Hungarian Revolution caused profound wounds in their minds. One of the most important products of these effects seen in Hungarian oral tradition is folk songs. In this study, by presenting only a few of the numerous examples of Hungarian folk songs about the Hungarian Revolution of 1848- 1849 and Lajos Kossuth, we try to explain how the Hungarians perceived and interpreted this struggle.
