Abstract
En este, su volumen 11 (2) Monteverdia, promueve entre los educadores y gestores ambientales, la relectura del Bosquejo geográfico militar de la provincia de Puerto Príncipe, de Leopoldo Barrios Carrión. Publicada en 1881 por la Imprenta de los Sucesores de N. Ramírez y C., en Barcelona, la obra recoge la experiencia del autor durante el tiempo en que estuvo destacado en la región como miembro del Estado Mayor del Ejército de España en Cuba. Pocos datos sobre Leopoldo Barrios Carrión pudieron reunirse para redactar estas notas, a pesar de que, evidentemente, fue algo más que un simple oficial de carrera. Nació el 18 de agosto de 1856 y se vinculó al ejército en 1873, con sólo 17 años. Ya en 1878 prestaba servicios en el Gobierno Civil de Puerto Príncipe (España. Ministerio de la Guerra, 1881) y tres años más tarde aparece con los grados de Comandante y Jefe del Estado Mayor (Guía oficial de España, 1881).
