MALOCLUSIONES VERTICALES EN ESTUDIANTES DE CINCO CARRERAS PROFESIONALES DE SALUD

Journal Title: Revista Salud & Vida Sipanense - Year 2020, Vol 7, Issue 1

Abstract

Currently we have many articles and bibliographies that refer to malocclusions, however they do not take into account vertical malocclusions, much less the Peruvian population of the north eastern region. This research work presents the vertical malocclusions of the 5 different health careers, who are the ones who later encounter this pathology and need to know both its frequency and the implications that it entails. The objective was to determine the most frequent vertical malocclusions in the students of the health careers of the Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza National University of Amazonas (UNTRM) in 2018. The research was carried out following the quantitative, descriptive, and observational parameters according to the researcher intervention, prospective according to data collection planning, cross-sectional because the number of times it was measured occurred in a single opportunity and because a single variable was observed, it was univariate analysis. The population consisted of 657 enrolled students belonging to the professional careers of nursing, medicine, stomatology, psychology and medical technology in its two specialties (radiology and physical therapy and rehabilitation), with a sample of 242 students, obtained through stratified sampling with proportional allocation. In order to carry out the information collection, a card prepared for the present investigation was used as an instrument, with the informed consent of all the participants, taking the normal occlusion, open bite, deep bite and edge-to-edge bite as dimensions. The results obtained indicate that 61.2% present normal occlusion, 36.8% edge-to-edge bite, 1.2% deep bite and 0.8% anterior open bite. The greatest number of vertical alterations occurred in the Professional Nursing School (49.4%) and they are equally frequent in both the female and the male sex. It was concluded that the students are mainly within the normal ranges with a high percentage of edge to edge bite.
