Journal Title: IOSR Journal of Dental and Medical Sciences (IOSR-JDMS) - Year 2017, Vol 16, Issue 6

Abstract

Erythroderma is an inflammatory skin condition which presents with extensive erythema and scaling of skin. It may be complicated by various metabolic abnormalities and is a life threatening condition. We conducted a prospective study to evaluate the epidemiology, clinical features and etiology of erythroderma in patients attending the dermatology clinic in Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences, Ranchi, Jharkhand, between December 2015 and April 2017. A total of 34 cases were included in the study. The male to female ratio was 2.4 :1 and the age group most affected was 21- 30 years. The most common cause of erythroderma was psoriasis(38.23%) followed by drug induced erythroderma(20.59%), atopic dermatitis, pityriasis rubra pilaris, scabies, congenital ichthyosiform erythroderma and others.
