A clinicopathological study and management of benign breast diseases in females

Abstract

Background: Development and growth of breast are under the control of numerous hormones and various physiological states such as pregnancy and lactation. Benign breast disease is any nonmalignant breast condition and encompasses a wide range of clinical and pathologic disorders. Although BBD is not life threatening, clinicians require an in-depth understanding of its significance so that appropriate treatment can be instituted, and unnecessary long-term follow-up can be avoided. Aim and objective: 1.To study different types of benign breast diseases, their mode of Clinical presentation and Pathology. 2.To study various types of investigations and management for benign breast diseases. Material and methods: Patients presenting with breast diseases were enrolled. Total 100 patients were studied. Data collected regarding sociodemographic data, detailed history, clinical examination with a pretested questionnaire. Diagnosis was confirmed with FNAC and histopathology. Results and Discussion: Majority of the patients were in age group of 16-30 years comprising 68%. Out of total 100 patients 59 patients presented with breast lump as a chief complaint Most common clinical diagnosis was fibroadenoma (72%). FNAC was correlated with clinical diagnosis. Most common treatment modality used was excision or lumpectomy.
