A Comparative Study on Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of A356-B4c and A356-Graphite Composites
Journal Title: International Journal of Mechanical and Production Engineering Research and Development (IJMPERD ) - Year 2018, Vol 8, Issue 2
Abstract
This work investigated the influence of boron carbide and graphite on the microstructure and mechanical behavior of A356-B4C and A356-Graphite composites. The investigation reveals the effectiveness of incorporation of B4C and Graphite in the A356 alloy for studying mechanical properties. The composites were fabricated using liquid metallurgy route. The A356- B4C and A356-Graphite composites were fabricated separately by introducing 4 wt. % of B4C and graphite particulates. The characterization was performed through Scanning Electron Microscope and Energy Dispersive Spectrum. The particle distribution was uniform in these composites. The density, hardness, ultimate tensile strength, yield strength and percentage elongation of both B4C and Graphite composites were evaluated. Further, a comparative study has been made between the A356- B4C and A356-Graphite composites. The B4C and graphite addition in the Al matrix proved to account for the dramatic change of the fracture mechanism of composites.
Fabrication of Metal Matrix Composite for Brake Drum-A Characteristic Study of Tribological Properties
The brake system is the most important system in vehicle. While applying brake, thermal energy is produced from the kinetic energy. The main functions of brake drums are to slow down the speed of the vehicle, when the br...
Experimental Investigation on Hardness, Microstructure and Surface Roughness of Maraging Steel Parts Produced by Direct Metal Laser Sintering Technique
Direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) is an additive manufacturing technique used to fabricate metal parts directly from the computer- aided design (CAD) data without any further machining operations. The DMLS technique is...
A Method for Reducing the Tooth Profile Errors of the Spur Gears in the Hobbing Process
The gear hobbing process is one of the most common and economical methods to machine the involute gear. The tooth profile deviations of the hobbed gears were caused by machine errors, hob errors and the deviation of the...
A Study on Calculation of Optimum Gear Ratios of a Two-Stage Helical Gearbox with Second Stage Double Gear Sets
The article focuses on finding optimum calculation of the gear ratios of a two-stage helical gearbox with second stage double gear sets. To obtain the optimum gear ratios, an optimization problem was established. Besides...
COMPARISON OF ABLATION RESISTANCE AND THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF C-PH AND CNT COMPOSITE LAMINATES
Supersonic aerospace vehicles which operate at very high speeds are supposed to sustain lots of heat due to skin friction. There is always a need for materials which are light in weight and show excellent thermal resista...
