A Copper Based Metal Organic Framework: Dynamic Green Catalyst for Heterogeneous OAcetylation of Alcohols Under Solvent Free Condition

Abstract

The metal-organic framework material Cu3(BTC)2 was synthesized solvothermally using copper nitrate trihydrate as metal source, benzene 1,3,5 tricarboxylic acid as ligand, dimethyl formamide, ethanol and deionized water as solvents. The new layered hybrid material thus obtained was characterized by several techniques such as powder X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (PXRD); electron spin resonance spectroscopy (ESR) and fourier transform-infra red spectroscopy (FT-IR). The porosity of the synthesized material was characterized by BET analysis. The textural properties were analysed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The stability of the synthesized material was analysed by thermo gravimetric analyser (TGA). The catalytic performance of the Cu3(BTC)2 MOF was explored for O-acetylation of alcohols under solvent free condition at 353 K. The catalytic activity of the synthesized MOF was followed using gas chromatography (GC).
