A Descriptive Study to Assess the Knowledge Regarding Prevention of Diaper Dermatitis among Mothers of Below 3 Years Children Residing in Ahmedabad City with a View to Develop an Information Booklet

Abstract

The present study aims to assess the knowledge regarding prevention of diaper dermatitis among 100 mothers of below 3 years children. The research design adopted for this study was Non experimental descriptive research design and non-probability purposive sampling technique was used for data collection. The study was conducted in different societies of Ahmedabad city. Data collection tool consisted of semi structured knowledge questionnaire with multiple choice questions. Data was analysed through descriptive and inferential statistics. The study revealed that 61% of the samples had good knowledge, 37% had average knowledge and 2% had poor knowledge. Mean score regarding prevention of diaper dermatitis was 20.83. Among demographic variables Age (in years), Religion, Educational Qualification, Occupation, Marital Status, Type of Family and No. of children, it was found that there was association between education and knowledge of mothers of below 3 years children. Chi square value was 52.7620, and calculated P value was 0.000 which was less than 0.05 which indicated that it was significant. After analysis the investigator developed and distributed an information booklet regarding prevention of diaper dermatitis.
