A Framework for Assessing Online Presence in Social Media

Abstract
This paper intends to provide a set of criteria for analyzing various social media platforms against their potential for supporting users in building their online presence. The four basic elements included in this framework: identity, space, persistency and action have been selected following an empirical analysis of various software platforms currently used currently in academic networking, and supported by recent findings in psychology and sociology.
