A GLANCE AT THE LITERATURE, FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF HISTORY

Abstract
The history as a science gains its mean according to the datas of historical sources. The sources of literature, which were embodied within the history should be concidered as a source for writing the history, alongwith the offical records. In our study: “ the subject of how the source of literature might offer an usefull information, when the offical sources at some points were inaduquate for writing the history” is dealt with. In the study the sources of XIXth century were used. The examples were especially given; For the social structures that were not be reflected within the offical sources of history could be maintained from the sources of literature. In the study, the event of the earthquake of 1898 in Balıkesir is dealt with as a subject case in order to critisise the self efficiancy of the sources of the literature and of the history. As a result of the study, it is emphasised that the earthquakeof 1898, were not be proposed efficantly with the offical documents might be put forward its different dimiansions with the help of the sources of the literature.
