A new instrument for recording the spine contourograph
Journal Title: Biology of Sport - Year 2003, Vol 20, Issue 1
Abstract
The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate the acceptability of a new instrument for recording the contourograph of spine curvature. The instrument based on distance measurements from the points of the spine curvature to the vertical line by the infrared optical sensor. The acceptability of measurements was assessed. The agreement of the test-retest measurements recorded using the designed instrument was analysed by the limits of agreement techniques. The validation of the lumbarsacrum angle calculated on the spine contourograph was evaluated against the measurements of the inclinometer. The amount of disagreement between test-retest values of the measured points on the spine contourograph calculated using the limits of agreement technique statistics ranged from 4.9% to 6.2%. The results of this study allowed to suggest that the designed instrument was a sensitive tool in assessing a different impact on the spine curvature.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of 16 weeks of n-3 LC-PUFA (omega 3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid) supplementation on tennis skill acquisition in 10-12 year old girls. This research was a...
EFFECTS OF REPEATEDLY HEADING A SOCCER BALL ON SERUM LEVELS OF TWO NEUROTROPHIC FACTORS OF BRAIN TISSUE, BDNF AND NGF, IN PROFESSIONAL SOCCER PLAYERS
The present study determined the effects of heading training on serum nerve growth factor (NGF) and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels in soccer players. Seventeen professional level male soccer players (mea...
Temperament structure and ways of coping with stress among professional soccer and basketball players
The temperamental traits play a crucial role in the process of the adjustment of an individual to the requirements of the environment: at school, at work and, of course, in sport activity [3,19]. In the research on stres...
QUERCETIN EFFECTS ON WEIGHT GAIN AND CALORIC INTAKE IN EXERCISED RATS
Quercetin is a flavonoid which activates oxidative metabolism. Quercetin may reduce weight gain by decreasing feed efficiency. The present study aims to evaluate weight gain, caloric intake and feed efficiency in exercis...
EFFECT OF EXERCISE TRAINING OF DIFFERENT INTENSITIES ON ANTI-INFLAMMATORY REACTION IN STREPTOZOTOCIN-INDUCED DIABETIC RATS
The study investigated the effect of high- and low-intensity exercise training on inflammatory reaction of blood and skeletal muscle in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic male Sprague-Dawley rats (243 ± 7 g, 8 weeks)....
