A prospective study of surgical management of the displaced supracondylar fractures of humerus in children with k wire fixation
Journal Title: International Journal of Orthopaedics Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 3, Issue 3
Abstract
Background: Supracondylar fractures of humerus is the commonest injury, constitutes about 65.4% of all fractures about the elbow in children. Displaced supracondylar fracture of humerus demand great respect and challenging one to treat, since it requires accurate anatomical reduction and internal fixation to prevent complications. So, in this study, we reported the results of closed and open reduction and internal fixation with K-wires in the displaced supracondylar fracture humerus in children. Material and Methods: Fourty cases of displaced (Gartland’s type 2 and 3) supracondylar fractures treated by internal fixation with K-wires were studied between September 2013 to August 2015 at our institution and followed for an average of 24 months. Results: We came across 26male patients and 14 female patients. Majority of the cases were due to high energy trauma of road traffic accidents involving relatively younger patients. At the end of 5 months, all except four patients could mobilize independently without any aid. We did not come across complications like fracture of femur and failure of fixation and no reoperations were required. Conclusions: Internal fixation with K-wires is the most commonly accepted treatment of displaced supracondylar fracture humerus in children when done at appropriate time. It gives more stable fixation, better anatomical reduction with negligible complication.

Non-surgical treatment of knee ligamentous lesions
Introduction: Knee trauma is very common and sometimes compromises its stability. The treatment of these lesions is more and more surgical, but nonsurgical treatment remain having an importance in the management. The pur...
Minimally invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO) in distal tibia fractures-retrospective functional and radiological outcome analysis among rural population
Background: Distal tibia fractures are one of the common fractures and results from indirect coronal or direct axial compression forces. These fractures encompass many and varied fracture configurations that involve medi...
Bacteriological study of orthopaedic infections
Open fractures are often associated with severe soft tissues damage, devascularization, and devitalization of bone fragments, thus increasing the susceptibility of bone to infection. Infections at the site of orthopaedic...
Surgical management of closed tendoachilles ruptures and evaluation of results
Aim and Objective: To study surgical management of closed ruptures of tendoachilles by different surgical techniques, their complications, and functional outcome after surgery. Method: prospective data collection perfor...
A randomized controlled study of dynamic compression plate (DCP) versus limited contact dynamic compression plate (LC-DCP) in treatment of forearm bone fractures in adults (age 18-60 years)
Background and objectives: Fracture of forearm bone are one of the most common injuries seen in day to day practice. The forearm, in combination with the proximal and distal radioulnar joints, allows pronation and supina...
