A rare case of subcutaneous Phaeohyphomycosis caused by Rhytidhysteron rufulum
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Microbiology Research - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 4
Abstract
Phaeohyphomycoses are fungal infections, caused by dematiaceous fungi, manifested as Cutaneous and Subcutaneous infections, Keratitis, Osteomyelitis, Meningitis, Sinusitis, and disseminated infections. This is a case report of a 59 year old diabetic male who presented with noduloulcerative lesion on right leg for two and half months. Biopsy of the lesion revealed septate, dematiaceous fungal hyphae on 10% KOH mount. Fungal culture of the biopsy material on Sabouraud’s Dextrose Agar showed velvety, dark brown to black growth with black reverse and identified as dematiaceous fungi- Rhytidhysteron rufulum.

Trends in antibiotic resistance among methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) isolates
Introduction: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has become the most important multidrug-resistant pathogen worldwide, causing significant morbidity and increased healthcare costs. Hospital acquired MRSA...
Bacteriological Profile of Urinary Tract Infections in Pregnant Women
Background: Urinary tract infections (UTI), which are caused by the presence and growth of microorganisms in the urinary tract, are perhaps the single commonest bacterial infections of mankind and in pregnancy, it may in...
Isolation, purification and characterisation of bacteriocin producing Lactobacillus species and its antimicrobial efficacy against food borne pathogens
Lactobacilli are a group of bacteria that are ubiquitous and contribute to the normal microbial flora of human beings. They are Generally Regarded as Safe (GRAS) and are not lethal to host. Bacteriocins are ribosomally s...
Microbiological spectrum and antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of various isolates from endotracheal tube aspirates in a tertiary care hospital, Hyderabad, Telangana
Introduction: Endotracheal aspirates ( ET) are relatively simple ,easy to collect at the bedside and are used to evaluate the causes of lower respiratory tract infections in ventilated patients.Several studies reported m...
Detection of methyltransferase CFR multidrug resistant gene in bacterial isolates from intensive care unit and ocular infections
We screened a total of 308 bacterial isolates (25 ICU and 283 ocular samples) for the presence of cfr gene and a mutation in the V-domain of 23S rRNA, as they are known to confer resistance to various antibiotics, includ...
