A retrospective clinico-epidemiological study of cutaneous lymphomas

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Cutaneous lymphomas form a heterogenous group of lymphoproliferative disorders of usually low malignancy. They are expressed on the skin and present in a wide variety of clinical types. Cutaneous lymphomas may be of either T- or B-cell origin, referred as cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCL) or cutaneous B-cell lymphomas (CBCL), respectively. Mycosis fungoides (MF) represents the most common type of CTCL. METHOD This was a retrospective epidemiologic study of patients with skin lymphoma treated in the 2nd Department of Dermatology of the "A. Syngros" Hospital in Athens, from the year 1993 to the year 2006. RESULTS In the period 1993-2006, 53 patients with skin lymphoma were treated, of which 49 were diagnosed with CTCL and 4 with CBCL. The study presents the demographic, clinical, immuno-histochemical and therapeutic data, and details of the clinical course of the disease in the patients involved. The results of statistical analysis of the relevant data are evaluated and discussed.
