A Review of Ultrasonic Welding of Thermoplastic Composites
Journal Title: Caspian Journal of Applied Sciences Research - Year 2013, Vol 2, Issue 3
Abstract
This paper presents a comprehensive overview on the process of ultrasonic welding of thermoplastic composites. The main purpose is to grant a deeper imminent into the natural history of the ultrasonic welding process and to recapitulate the exploratory attempt that was put into it by a large group of researchers. The major focus is set on the parameters that preside over the welding process (weld pressure, weld time, hold time, frequency and amplitude), as well as on the secondary occurrence that can influence the quality of the weld. An overview of the experimental procedure is also presented, with an emphasis on the experimental set-up. Finally, several advantages and disadvantages of ultrasonic welding methods and its applications are further reviewed.
