A REVIEW ON ANTI-TUBERCULOSIS DRUGS POSSESSING VARIOUS PHARMACOLOGICAL AND BIOLOGICAL EVALUATION

Journal Title: WORLD JOURNAL PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 7

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an ancient disease with high incidence and mortality rates in Africa and Asian countries. This can be because of Multidrug resistant (MDR) TB, extensively drug resistant (XDR) TB and human immunodeficiency virus. Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other closely related strains is the major cause of tuberculosis. M. tuberculosis develops resistance to most anti-tubercular drugs in use. In this review we focused on antibiotics used in the treatment of tuberculosis and the main cause of resistance of these antibiotics to tuberculosis. We discussed about using autophagy, nanoparticles and antimicrobial peptides as alternatives due to increased incidence of MDR TB and XDR TB.
