A REVIEW ON TRADITIONAL USES AND THEREPUTIC INDICATIONS OF ANETHUM SOWA

Abstract

The word ‘Dravyaguna’ means the science dealing with properties and actions of drugs. Acharya Charaka states that action of a drug may be in accordance with its Rasa, Guna, Virya, Vipaka and Prabhava. Anethum Sowa (Indian Dill or also knowns as Shatapuspa, Sowa) is an annual flowering plant in the Apiaceae family. It is native to the eastern, Mediterranean and Western Asia. Two species of dill: European dill (Anethum gravedens L.) and Indian dill (Anethurn sown Roxb.). The seed of Anethum sowa has been widely used in the treatment of many disease. It is widely used in diuretic, carminative, antibacterial, antiseptic, antispasmodic, cardiodepressant, anti microbial, galactogogue and laxative.
