A Scheme for Authentication with Multiple Levels of Anonymity in Vehicular Communication

Abstract

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) have become the area of keen interest for many researchers over the last few years. As vanet have potential technology to enhance active and preventive safety on the road, as well as travel comfort, its security and privacy are of prime concern. As safety related message may contain life critical information, it is a necessity that the sender as well as the broadcasted message should be authentic. In order to integrate security requirement in design of VANET we have proposed a secure and efficient protocol for vehicular ad hoc networks, that is aided with identity based signature mechanism and pseudonyms, both providing a mix of security and privacy features, including: node authentication, data integrity, anonymity and un-traceability.
