A study of different modalities of treatment of fracture of distal end of radius
Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Orthopedics - Year 2017, Vol 4, Issue 1
Abstract
Background: Fractures of distal end radius represent approximately 16% of all fractures treated by orthopaedic surgeons. Aims and Objectives: To study different modalities of treatment of fracture of distal end of radius Methodology: For the present study 103 followed cases of colles’ fractures were studied. Out of these 87 cases were treated by below elbow plaster cast in pronation with wrist in either of following positions. The cases coming to D Y Patil Medical College, Kolhapur from March 2013 to December 2014 were collected for the O.P.D hours and some as an emergency in casualty. General condition of the patient was assessed and associated injuries were excluded. Detailed history of the patient was taken with emphasis on the time since injury, history or massage etc. X-rays of the injured wrist were taken. Result: Type II injuries were more frequent [41.37%] than any other type. In 76.47% cases, GA was used for fracture reduction. that majority of cases (75.86%) had 4 weeks of plaster immobilization. Patients were treated by below elbow cast with forearm in pronation and various wrist positions . Satisfactory results (Good and Excellent) were seen in 71.26% of patients. Frykman’s type II were having excellent result i.e. 06 out of 12 excellent result . The satisfactory results were almost comparable in each wrist position except slightly better position in neutral group. In Other Methods of treatment Above elbow cast used in 08, Percutaneous ‘k’ Wire fixation in 04, External fixator in 04 patients. In other methods of treatment majority of the patients with Above elbow cast were having Excellent result i.e. 05 out of 16. Conclusion: It can be concluded from our study that Type II injuries were more frequent. Satisfactory results (Good and Excellent) were seen in 71.26% of patients. Frykman’s type II were having excellent result The satisfactory results were almost comparable in each wrist position except slightly better position in neutral group. In other methods of treatment majority of the patients with Above elbow cast were having Excellent result.

Clinical profile of patients with complex proximal femur fractures
In young and healthy individuals, the injury results from high energy trauma, whereas in the elder age group, most of the fractures are osteoporotic, resulting from a trivial fall. Aim: To study the clinical profile of p...
Displaced calcaneal fractures treated by open reduction and internal fixation - A functional outcome
About 75 % of all calcaneal fractures are intra articular and have high rates of complications and poor outcomes. Regardless of the treatment, calcaneal fractures are associated with numerous complications and poor outco...
Study of proximal femoral nail v/s dynamic hip screw in inter-trochantric fractures treated at Pravara Rural Hospital, Loni, Maharashtra, India
Background: This is the commonest injury seen in patients above 50 yrs of age, with more incidences in women. Multiple factors like aging, osteoporosis, anatomy of inter trochatric region, predispose to this type of inju...
