A study of functional outcome of lisfranc fracture dislocations managed by various operative methods in rural south Indian population
Journal Title: National Journal of Clinical Orthopaedics - Year 2018, Vol 2, Issue 4
Abstract
This study is an attempt to analyse the midterm results of “functional outcome of lisfranc fracture dislocations managed by various operative methods” in rural south Indian population. Lisfranc Fracture dislocations have low incidence as they are commonly missed. Painful malunion or impaired functions may result if not treated adequately. Anatomic reduction and internal fixation is recommended. The study involves 15 patients, aged 18 to 65 admitted to our hospital, Rajah Muthiah Medical College, Chidambaram for period of 24 months from May 2016 to April 2018.Myerson’s Classification of lisfranc fracture disloaction was used to classify and manage the injuries accordingly. Patients were managed with surgical reduction (Open or closed) using Kwires/Screws. Post operatively immobilisation was done using BK cast/slab for a period varying from 4 - 12 weeks and later Gradual weight bearing allowed after 6 -8 weeks. AOFAS Midfoot score was used to document the prognosis. The study involves 15 patients, 11 men and 4 women aged 18 to 65years (mean = 31) admitted to our hospital, for period of 24 months from May 2016 to April 2018 (mean follow up period - 9 months). Patients with anatomic reduction achieved higher mean AOFAS foot score.Type B fractures had a better outcome than Type A and Type C fractures. Thus we conclude that Anatomic reduction is the mainstay in the operative management of Lisfranc fracture dislocations.

Background: Recurrent instability and deficits of shoulder function are common after a primary traumatic anterior shoulder dislocation. The possibility of recurrent dislocation decreases with increasing age at primary di...
Comparative prospective study of proximal femoral nail and locking compression plate in subtrochanteric fractures of femur
Introduction: Subtrochanteric fractures of the femur account for 7-44% of all proximal femur fractures. Conservative treatment in these fractures has no role. Two principal options exist for unstable fractures. Either an...
A prospective study of surgical management of fractures around ankle joint
Introduction: Ankle joint fractures are commonly encountered by orthopedic surgeons. Fractures are result of twisting and sport injuries. Ankle joint is maximum weight bearing joint of body and has maximum load per unit...
To assess the functional results of surgical management of distal humerus fractures in adults involving the articular surface
Introduction: Distal humerus fractures are uncommon injuries that account for fewer than 2% of all adult fractures. The complex shape of the elbow joint, the adjacent neurovascular architecture, and the sparse soft tissu...
A study of functional outcome of distal tibial extra-articular fracture fixed with locking compression plate using MIPPO technique
Background: Distal metaphysical fractures of Tibia are difficult to manage due to its poor blood supply and limited soft tissue envelope. Most of these are managed surgically using closed reduction with IMIL nail, ORIF w...
