A Study of Image Segmentation and Edge Detection Techniques

Journal Title: International Journal on Computer Science and Engineering - Year 2011, Vol 3, Issue 2

Abstract

Image segmentation is the key behind image understanding. Image segmentation is one of the most important steps leading to the analysis of processed image data. It is the prime area of research in computer vision. A number of image segmentation techniques are available ,but there is no one single technique that is suitable to all the applications .Hence researches select the techniques as per the application or combine more than one techniques as per the requirement of the application. In this paper we have discussed about some image segmentation techniques like edge based, region based and integrated techniques and explains in brief the edge based techniques and their evaluation. This paper focuses on edge based techniques and their evaluation.
