Journal Title: Medpulse International Journal of Surgery - Year 2019, Vol 9, Issue 1
Abstract
Background: Perianal fistula is thought to develop secondary to perianal abscess. The disease has a rather high rate of recurrence, Recurrence is usually due to secondary extensions which are missed during the operation and thus are not properly treated. Aims and Objectives: study of usefulness of Fistulogram for the Anorectal fistulectomy at tertiary health care centre. Methodology: This was a cross-sectional study carried out in the department of Surgery of a tertiary health care centre during the one year period i.e. January 2017 to January 2018 in the study period there were 55 patients of anorectal fistula were selected randomly , all the patients undergone all routine clinical and hematological investigations after that all of them undergone MR-Fistulogram , results of the MR-Fistulogram i.e. Intersphincteric, Transsphincteric, Suprasphincteric, Extrasphincteric or Supralevator were entered into excel sheets analyzed in percentages. Result: In our study we have seen that The majority of the patients were in the age group of 30-40 were 27.27%, followed by 40-50, Were 23.64%, 50-60 were 20.00%, >60 were 16.36%, 20-30 were 12.73%. The majority of the patients were Male i.e. 69.09% and Females were 30.91% the male to Female ratio was 2.23: 1. The most common type of fistula found in our study was Intersphincteric was 68%, Transsphincteric was 19%, Suprasphincteric-11%, Extrasphincteric or Supralevator - 2%. Conclusion: It can be concluded from our study that MRI was most useful in identifying type of Fistula important for the surgical management and prevention of subsequent recurrence.
