A Study on the Influencing Factors of Household Energy Consumption Based on the Microscopic Perspective

Abstract

It is of great significance for easing China's energy security and reduce environmental pollution to promoting the optimization of rural energy consumption structure and renewable energy use. Based on the household survey data of 668 households in Henan and Shanxi provinces, this study analyzes the influencing factors of household energy consumption from microcosmic perspective. The results show that farmers living energy consumption is still dominated by traditional biomass energy such as crop residue and wood which takes more than 60 percent of overall residential energy consumption. Household income level and labor cost are the decisive factors that affect the living energy consumption of farmers, Coal, electricity, liquefied petroleum gas and other commodity energy consumption is rising up rapidly with the level of income and the increase in labor costs, methane gas, solar and other new renewable energy has been increasing rapidly in rural China but the proportion is still low; Other factors, such as to the development of local energy market, education and experience of nonagricultural work of household head, and the demographic characteristics of the household also have significant impacts the rural energy consumption.
