A STUDY ON THE WORD PREFERENCES OF PRE-SERVICE TURKISH TEACHERS

Abstract

Throughout the history, the languages spoken all over the world have been interacted each other without being restricted to regional language. In this perspective, Turkish has been a language which is spoken in a wide area of the world, and also affected by others like many languages. Interaction among languages, though exchange of words between them occurs naturally, causes to alienation and crealisation when the circumstance exceeds a certain limit. There is no doubt that the most important component for pretending language from crealisation are language teachers. Therefore, the aim of the study is to determine the most preferred words of Turkish language preservice teachers among Turkish, East and West origin words which have same meaning in daily life. The participants are 120 preservice teachers who study at department of Turkish Education of Karadeniz Technical University in the Black Sea region of Turkey. In the present study, the data was collected by using “Word Preference Scale” developed by researchers and SPSS 22.0 Statistical packet program was used for the analysis. The data was collected using t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA).The study designed as screening model was a descriptive study.The results have indicated the averages related to preservice teachers preferences on Turkish, East and West origin words. According to the results of the Study, there is no significant differences among word preferences of preservice teachers in terms of sex and class level variables.
