Abstract

Giovanni Arrighi deixou uma obra de grande relevância para a compreensão dos fenômenos internacionais, destacando-se pela criatividade e qualidade argumentativa e pelo número de citações, tanto entre os autores que subscrevem sua teoria como entre seus críticos mais contundentes. Em sua teoria dos Ciclos Longos de Acumulação de Capital, Hegemonia e Dominação, reuniu de forma original explicações e teorias antes aparentemente inconciliáveis. Sua teoria produziu uma nova agenda de pesquisa, provavelmente muito maior do que o autor poderia imaginar quando se inseriu no debate teórico a respeito da crise hegemônica dos EUA. Sua herança intelectual motivou debates e novas reflexões entre os pesquisadores brasileiros e, certamente, será alvo de novas ponderações e reinterpretações no futuro...
